Portrait of space is an image that reflects Lee miller's desire to escape and be free. Lee Miller was a photographer, photojournalist, model, and surrealist muse who documented World War 2 and contributed to the surrealist art movement. "Portrait of Space" was taken during her three-year marriage to Aziz Eloui Bey in Cairo, Egypt. Soon after they got married, Miller got bored of her new life as a lady of leisure and went to social events with people who had no understanding or interest in modern art. So to escape from everything, she often made expeditions into the desert and on a trip to Siwa Oasis. Where she took her iconic photograph "Portrait of Space."
